Disc Two (Side Japan) truly goes for "the creative and imaginative throat" with the most "next level" spectrum sound dynamics artist to artist. The BLACKPHONE666 and GC SKULL ELECTRONICS selections are utterly mind-blowing power. Each of these artists has truly defined themselves beyond description and the gradual maturity of each is critically evident. Top notch material also by GOVERNMENT ALPHA, KAZUMA KUBOTA, KAZUMOTO ENDO, LIKE WEEDS, PAIN JERK, LINEKRAFT, and the phenomenal SCUM really keep things colorized and transcending texturally and with pleasurable agonizing force ! Additional standout Wolf Creek just terrorizes the listener with their closing piece "Feeling of Imperative Stimmen". Excellent vision and attack to be sure. Easily one of THE BEST sound documents I have heard in many, many years ! To be sure, this could become a "book" if I were to discuss in detail all of the contributors here and go into their deep histories as artists and performers but the final word is HELP. At the time, Koufar's "The Death of Myself" represented the closing of the project's first chapter. A sonic requiem delivered at maximum volume. The innovative blend of classical samples and abrasive vocal exhortations carved out a unique position in contemporary power-electronics. Content focused on the politics and history of Lebanon eschewed genre tropes for something greater, injected with the artists personal experience. Over time Koufar's influence on the genre has grown, and these recordings are once more available, fully remastered by Grant Richardson with new art and two additional bonus tracks: one unique to this CD, the other previously included on the "The League of the Divine Wind" compilation.

New Forces is proud to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Sissy Spacek with their latest LP, "Trash Staging." Sissy Spacek have been one of my favorite bands for a long time, with a genre-bending catalog that spans grind, noisecore, collage, tape music, free improvisation, and large ensembles. Throughout, they have injected a frantic intensity into their music that is as addictive as it is unrelenting. "Trash Staging" could not be more perfectly calibrated to what I love most about this band, here consisting of John Wiese and Charlie Mumma. The record takes the "grind" and the "noise" of this project and pushes both to the limit. The A-Side, which plays at 45rpm, unleashes a noisy grindcore assault, the drums blending with the electronics into a massive wall of sound. Feedback, blast beats, and screeching vocals pummel the listener for 5 perfect minutes. This is Sissy Spacek at their most extreme, sure to leave you out of breath. On the B-Side, which plays at 33rpm, the noisy tendencies of this project are taken to their logical conclusion, as they blast the listener with grappling electronics for nearly 20 minutes. Well-deserved comparisons to Pain Jerk and Incapacitants may give you an idea of the sort of noise perfection to be found here. Dynamic and free flowing, this is the sort of noise that can induce a trance-like state at high volumes. For those of you that always want your music louder, faster, and more intense, look no further. This will probably be as close as you're going to get. Your new favorite noise record, and your new favorite grind record, all in one convenient package. "Trash Staging" will be available from New Forces in mid-September.

Kjostad has witnessed massive growth since the debut "Wolf Knoll Road" of 2014. No, somehow his Breaking The Will persona does not rear it's maniacal head, although you might hear some heavy breathing beneath the mire. This recording, instead, has as much indebted to love as it does rage. Question and answer without finality. The birds still chatter as the society shatters... Something often lost in the era of new American noise/experimental is the capacity to conjure long-form tracks that feel whole and cohesive. Look no further you supplicant! There is a certain poignant brevity that is specific to Stefan's work and it inarguably shows itself within this LP. Ligature has steadily and excitedly evolved over its few short moments of existence. Influences have been shorn off and the project, as well, exists in a private-but-exposed place. Elements of spoken-word, heavier use of field recordings, and contemplative moods run rampant on these three tracks. Just like Kjostad, there's a bare intimacy running through the entire recording, even in moments that may seem to have a function of stirring up the listener's concentration. Hazy, periodically adrenalized, lingering on after the moment itself. A combined effort that is incredibly fitting; both engaging in similar but completely disparate approaches, both shining bright in the externalizing of deeper mental recesses. Is it time for year-end lists yet?

"residue" is the product of erroneous usages and settings of acoustic devices. Phasal disarray, feedback, interference: none of these can be accurately produced on stage through the performers' intentions, and as such, they are normally abhorred by both performers and engineers. Nishiyama works as a live engineer but he has come to feel an irresistible attraction towards the unpredictable movements of sound produced by these abhorrent elements. This work is made up those types of phenomena, deliberately produced on acoustic devices or within computers. It is created using extremely simple and basic signal routing: the audio and parameter signals are passed through several oscillators, filters and effects units. The reciprocal feedback and low frequency oscillations between the devices creates interference, bringing microtonal instabilities and rich (and simultaneously warped and unpleasant) fluctuations and vibrations to the simple sound of the oscillators. As a sonic phenomenon, these fluctuations and vibrations are of course nothing new, and innumerable musicians have deployed them over the years. However, they are also elements that have long been excluded. He places his own work at a deliberate distance from composed musical forms, instead choosing the explore the accrual of naturally occurring acoustic phenomena such as feedback, phase-correlation, and LFO fluctuation, etc. After releasing his music on several digital platforms, he released his LP "Residue" in 2020. With cassette players, a reel-to-reel tape recorder, and an old DJ mixer, Rizer manages to conjure jagged and corroded compositions of effected field recordings that are looped and continually reassembled into dynamic and forward-moving compositions of rough noise. He is also known for his involvement in other previous projects including Budweiser Sprite, Glom, Shitty Vibe Smasher, and Yes, Collapse, as well operating Together Tapes, a DIY cassette label featuring meticulously-crafted psychedelic packaging and artwork.
